Application Spotlight: Sustarin C & Polystone® M 7000 in Food Processing Belt Scrapers

In the food manufacturing industry, conveyor belt systems play a critical role in maintaining product quality and production efficiency. In this application, a custom belt scraper was developed for use on a PTFE-coated Kevlar conveyor belt operating within a cooling tunnel. The previous steel scraper design posed a risk of damaging the belt surface, leading to increased wear, maintenance requirements, and potential disruption to production.

To overcome these challenges, the scraper head was manufactured from Polystone® M 7000, chosen for its low coefficient of friction and gentle contact characteristics. These properties provided excellent release performance while helping to protect the PTFE-coated belt surface during continuous cleaning operations. The handle was manufactured from Sustarin C, delivering the stiffness, strength, and dimensional stability required for reliable operation in a demanding food processing environment.

The completed scraper assembly offered a lightweight, food-safe alternative to the previous steel design while significantly reducing the risk of conveyor belt damage. Improved release characteristics, reduced friction, and enhanced handling performance contributed to longer belt life and more efficient cleaning processes. This application highlights how the combination of Polystone® M 7000 and Sustarin C can deliver a durable and effective solution for food processing operations where product handling, equipment protection, and operational reliability are essential.
